Home Featured Remembering Tomcraft: Top 10 iconic tracks

The tragic passing of German producer Tomcraft has sent shockwaves throughout the electronic music community. Here we look to remember him by visiting 10 of his most iconic releases.

1. Tomcraft – Loneliness

The single that put Tomcraft on the map. Released in 2002, its lush vocal and driving house rhythms saw it reach the top of the United Kingdom charts by May 2003. Through the years, it has remained a relevant and powerful anthem within the music scene, so much so that Hardwell gave it an updated mix in late 2023.

2. Tomcraft – Prosac

It was a pulsing anthem from 1996 that went overlooked by the music scene until it was re-released in 2001. Showcasing his passion for techno, while unafraid to add touches to his progressive trance influences, Prosac was an early defining production for Tomcraft and an enduring musical feat for his legacy.

3. Tomcraft – Silence

Slotted right after Prosac on his 2001 album All I Got, SIlence is a true lesson in duality for listeners. Following the relentless nature of its predecessor, Silence becomes cathartic and moving, utilizing a soothing combination of trance and techno elements to craft a musical journey that allows the listener to escape within the mix.

4. Tomcraft – The Mission

Another track from All I Got further showcases the inspiration and strength of output that Tomcraft was riding at the turn of the century. The subtle female vocals in the intro are alluring yet subtle, perfectly leaning into the techno vibe of the track, His years of experience around the Munich club scene certainly bleed through, as The Mission is both dark and driving, perfect for late nights in the city.

5. Tomcraft – The Circle

Raised in the clubs of Munich, Tomcraft was no doubt confronted with plenty of styles, inspiration, and motivations for honing his craft. The Circle begins with an almost industrial edge, Tomcraft provides hard, gritty percussive elements while layering bright synths and pads in contrast. The combination provides for a stunning contradiction in sounds that work beautifully throughout.

6. Tomcraft – Overdose

Following the success of Loneliness, Tomcraft would look to continue his growth and capitalize on the success and his increased output reflected his passion. Overdose is one of the first singles to be released with this larger spotlight on his work and Tomcraft built a truly engaging production. Built around a distorted bass, the driving rhythms and use of vocals are both curious and incredibly infectious.

7. Tomcraft, Moguai, ILIRA – Happiness

A much later entry into his catalog, Happiness showcases his ability to work with newer producers and continue to be relevant in the modern era. As the combination of techno and progressive trance became more mainstream thanks to his early efforts, this 2020 release shows just how ahead of his time Tomcraft was when he began his career in the mid-90s.

8. Tomcraft – Zounds Of Arca

As Tomcraft approached a decade and a half as a producer, his love for techno and progressive trance remained, while his productions improved in clarity. Zounds Of Arca represents the German producer in 2012, still leaning heavily into the underground club elements that he began on but showcasing his years of experience in the studio with his attention to detail within the mix.

9. Tomcraft, Sido, Tai Jason – Sureshot

A blazing coming together of styles. German rapper Sido fearlessly spits over the bombastic percussion and rhythms. It is powerful and engaging while allowing Tomcraft to step out from his world of techno and progressive trance a bit. The ability of the producers to change direction on a dime is a testament to their commitment to their craft.

10. Tomcraft – Rude Place

The final release from this trailblazing producer. Opening with a beautiful female vocal, Tomcraft looks to prepare listeners for the unexpected. Shifting gears between the vocal and his driving production, the track ebbs and flows without losing momentum. After nearly 30 years as a DJ and producer, Rude Place is the perfect endcap for a legendary career.

Relive some of the most iconic and memorable productions from Tomcraft as fellow producers, fans, and family pay homage to this late legend.
