DJ Snake responds to his music being used at DNC this week
As the 2024 election draws near in the United States, candidates rely on music as part of their campaign for connecting with voters. Following a recent performance, DJ Snake shared his displeasure at his music being included at the Democratic National Convention.
In America, political candidates work hard to connect with voters by utilizing a wide variety of communication and interaction, with music being an integral part of many campaigns. Of course, utilizing music for a political campaign doesn’t always sit well with the artists who created the music in the first place. History has seen many instances of artists speaking out and searching out legal recourse to stop candidates from using their music for official campaign events and programming. During the Democratic National Convention this week, the issue arose again as Lil Jon appeared to perform his single with DJ Snake, Turn Down For What.
The 2013 hit single continues to be a dominant track both within and outside of the electronic music scene, and with Lil Jon on hand, served as a rowdy introduction for Georgia delegates preparing to nominate Kamala Harris for President. While Lil Jon was clearly all in for the moment, DJ Snake wasn’t as enthused about having his music included int he ceremony. The French producer took to social media and responded to clip of the performance simply stating, “I did not and do not allow the use of my music to be played at a political event of any kind.” With the performance being a one and done moment, this may be as far as this controversy extends.
