At the end of the day, if you’re not making yourself happy as an artist, what’s the point really?

You will not find very many artists as versatile as Bay Area native Jauz. Since his debut in the electronic scene in 2014, he has made a name for himself as someone who is always looking to keep things fresh and push the envelope of his artistry. With multiple sell-out tours, an appearance as a guest DJ on The Discover Channel, his philanthropy, gracing the stage at some of the most prestigious festivals in the world, his passion for environmental causes, multiple highly-revered albums including his milestone two-part project ‘Rise of the Wise/Wrath of the Wicked’ in 2023 and just recently becoming a father, he has made the most out the past decade. In order to get a more intimate look inside the mind of Jauz, we spoke with him about how he creates his art.

Hi! We’re so glad you could join us! Getting right into it, what led to the official relaunch of Bite This! and why did you feel like now was the right time to do it?

Right around the time my daughter was born, I knew we were going to be making some changes to the label as my wife Joann had been running the label for the previous few years. I knew I wanted her to be able to just focus on being a mom without all the added workload of running a record label full time. My thought process was, If we’re going to be bringing in someone from the outside to run the label anyways, why don’t we really try to rebuild things from the ground up? Over however many years the label had been operating, so many things in our industry had changed. I knew there were things I wanted to do differently for a while, but it’s really hard to make abrupt changes when the train is steaming ahead, so to speak. It wasn’t an easy decision to basically slow the label down to a full stop, but I knew in the long run it would set us up for the most long term success. During that time, we ended up meeting the team at OneRPM and our visions aligned on how we thought a boutique label like this should operate, and they were totally on board with letting me steer the ship however I saw fit. It’s been such a gamechanger to have a team like OneRPM on our side and I don’t know if we would have ended up here if I hadn’t make the hard choices.
