Refael Raz transforms pain into a melodic techno masterpiece with ‘Prayer’: Listen

Refael Raz, a name that has been a staple in the industry for over three decades, played at all the hottest spots in Tel Aviv back when vinyl was the standard for DJs. An authentic producer and creator who has seen it all—until October 7th. In October 2023, after the massacre at the Nova Festival, where Refael lost 15 of his friends, he decided to take his pain into the studio and pour out his heart, choosing to release the first debut album of his prolific career.

The album is titled “תְּפִלָּה” (Prayer), born out of a place of hope, pain, and unity, aiming to bring people together and connect as many as possible around a positive force. The title track of the album shares the same name, featuring both an original mix and an extended version. This album isn’t just music; it’s a movement, a call for collective healing, and an invitation to find strength through connection and shared experience.

The original version starts with a sweeping melodic harmony as if it were written straight from heaven, featuring breathtaking operatic vocals that are perfectly layered over the instrumental, creating a sense of perfection that draws listeners directly into the story. As the buildup progresses, you can feel the power and intensity, and when the drop hits, it’s as if the listener is swept into an entirely new narrative—a high-caliber melodic techno track. The drop’s drive continues with strings playing throughout and fantastic vocal chops. 

The main break is accompanied by catchy, uplifting synths that take any trance enthusiast from the late ’90s and early 2000s on a nostalgic journey through time. With the second drop, the dark energy of well-crafted melodic techno returns. Towards the end of the track, innocent vocals, reminiscent of a child’s voice, create a perfect contrast with the dark rise leading to the final drop, providing a flawless close to the track.

Without a doubt, with a debut track from the album crafted so meticulously, there is much to anticipate from this talented producer who has transformed his pain into a blessed creation of the highest caliber.
