Spanish authorities have made the largest ecstasy drug bust in the country’s history, confiscating more than one million pills in an operation carried out by the Guardia Civil. This historic seizure, part of Operation Adriatic, took place on September 5 with eight searches conducted in Ibiza and two in Malaga. The investigation began in April when authorities identified a criminal network dedicated to smuggling drugs into Ibiza.

During the operation, police seized over 700 kilograms of narcotics, including 212 kg of ketamine, 73 kg of MDMA, 21 kg of pink cocaine, 20 kg of cocaine, 10 kg of hashish, 6 kg of marijuana, and 3 kg of sugar used for producing cocaine. According to authorities, the street value of the seized drugs exceeds €25 million, marking it as a significant blow to the synthetic drug trade in Spain.

Additionally, the operation led to the arrest of nine individuals believed to be members of one of Spain’s primary synthetic drug smuggling rings. The suspects, of Spanish, Italian, and Dutch origin, reportedly played key roles in smuggling massive quantities of ecstasy and other substances into Ibiza’s party scene. This highly coordinated network had been distributing drugs across the Balearic Islands, as well as in other parts of Europe.

Just a month prior, Spanish police had also dismantled a marijuana trafficking operation, arresting five individuals and seizing over 1,000 plants. The group was involved in sending marijuana from Spain to Germany using parcel services.

This unprecedented ecstasy bust in Ibiza underscores the ongoing efforts by Spanish law enforcement to combat large-scale drug trafficking networks, as they continue to target high-level operations threatening both local and international communities.
