Jeff Mills sports Millsart alias for majestic ‘Powerland’ EP: Listen
As a pioneer of music and art, Jeff Mills has built a loyal following through his hypnotic productions and engaging live sets. Now the producer dons his Millsart moniker for his latest release.
With just four tracks on his latest offering, Jeff Mills showcases his ability to craft a concise yet still powerful message with his work. Released under his Millsart moniker, the Powerland EP offers a broad message and range of sounds across its short 21-minute run time. From the opening notes of the EPs first track, The Savvy Provocateurs Of Parallel 42, the music retains the nuance and technical skill of Mills’ other works. Still, it maintains a more atmospheric emotion than the driving productions he reserves for his main outlet. Discussing the project via Instagram, the producer provides a deep insight into the motivation behind the music:
‘The relationship between our star, the source that gives us life and the land we occupy during this transcendental process is one of sensitivity and compassion. Topography and rock settlements are positioned as conductive posts of energy. An energy line wrapping around a planet that straddles between the past, the present and the future. And on this land, exists an engineered string of energy called the 37th Parallel. Time Travel, multi-dimensional activity, healing, spiritual transition and rejuvenations in the supernatural respect and other powers we’ve yet to discover and realize.‘
Steeped in such deep concepts of time travel, spiritual transition, and of course the power and force of the sun, the music ebbs and flows to capture all of these ideas across the EPs four tracks. It is engaging and thought-provoking, offering elements of avant-garde and jazz rhythms that help to expand and bring listeners into the producer’s headspace. The Powerland EP is streaming now and vinyl records are available to purchase via the Axis Records store.
