The Dutch legend’s ‘Major Tom’ remix brings a fresh, energetic twist to the classic, infusing it with the signature dance music style that has made him a household name. Tiësto’s remix retains the essence of Peter Schilling’s original, preserving its haunting vocals and evocative lyrics while layering in pulsating beats and uplifting synths. ‘Major Tom (Coming Home)’ became an anthem of the early 80s, captivating listeners with its space-themed narrative and infectious melody. The song, which tells the story of a character unofficially related to David Bowie‘s “Major Tom” from the 1969 track ‘Space Oddity,’ describes a calm, reflective astronaut detached from the psychological stress of his colleagues. As they focus on scientific experiments he finds uncertain, he experiences a surge of emotion while enjoying weightlessness, facing an unclear fate after losing contact with others.
Tiësto’s ‘Major Tom’ remix is yet another example of how timeless music can be reinterpreted and introduced to new audiences. Whether you’re an 80s music enthusiast or a dance music aficionado, this remix is one track you won’t want to miss.
