TikTok Music will be closing down at the end of November
Users of TikTok Music will be upset to learn that the platform will be shutting down at the end of November. The announcement was made this week by the parent company ByteDance.
In recent years, TikTok has emerged as a leading source of inspiration for music and influencer trends. The platform has become a major resource for listeners to discover new music and provide producers and creators with a simple way to reach new audiences. Despite the platform’s success, its streaming arm, TikTok Music, will be shutting down at the end of November this year. The service had been accessible in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico but today, the website states “We are sorry to inform you that TikTok Music will be closing on 28 November 2024.” In regards to the decision, Ole Obermann, global head of Music Business Development said:
“Our Add to Music App feature has already enabled hundreds of millions of track saves to playlists on partner music streaming services. We will be closing TikTok Music at the end of November to focus on our goal of furthering TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services, for the benefit of artists, songwriters, and the industry.”
Future Music Plans
TikTok has always had a tenuous relationship with the music industry as it fought with Universal Music Group over royalty payments earlier this year. This new decision to develop better ways to connect fans with music, as well as work directly with the major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, or Amazon Music. The platform already allows users to add tracks directly to playlists on other streaming services. Users of TikTok Music should begin transferring their playlists to other platforms and prepare for the shuttering of TikTok Music on November 28th.
