Richie Hawtin reveals 30th-anniversary edition of Plastikman’s ‘Musik’
Fans of Richie Hawtin have been fortunate to watch him evolve and define trends throughout decades of his storied career. Now he is looking back to his legendary moniker Plastikman and revisiting a classic album from the past.
It is hard to believe that it has been three decades since Richie Hawtin achieved new levels of success with the unveiling of his alias Plastikman. The British-Canadian producer donned the alter ego in the early 90s and the project’s second album, Musik, helped him reach new audiences with the collection of minimalist techno sounds. After paying homage to the project’s debut album, Sheet One last year, he has now remastered the follow-up for streaming services and vinyl. Remastered from the original tapes, Hawtin looks to provide fans with a fresh listen to the classic album.
When Musik was first released back in 1994, Richie Hawtin was coming off the first-ever Plastikman performance, delivered in a black, vinyl-encased room at the Packard Plant in Detroit. As his work helped grow the burgeoning scene in the region, Plastikman and his sophomore album became landmark elements of the minimal techno landscape. With this new remastered release and vinyl pressing, fans can revisit this classic album with renewed energy. The vinyl can be preordered now ahead of its official release on December 6th, 2024.
