Amelie Lens opens up about online comparisons for female artists
With techno fans’ anticipation growing for the upcoming b2b sets between Amelie Lens and Charlotte de Witte, the two stars came together for a panel discussion during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). Lens had some heartfelt comments regarding social media and how it views female artists.
Heading into 2025, there are no bigger events on the schedule yet than the upcoming shows between Amelie Lens and Charlotte de Witte. The two techno icons will share the stage across 3 nights at Flanders Expo in Ghent. Ahead of the shows, both producers shared the stage at the recent Amsterdam Dance Event, giving insights into their careers and discussing some of their plans for the upcoming shows. During the conversation, they were asked about the industry and comparisons and Amelie Lens shared some very honest feedback about how they impact the art and spirit.
In the interview, fans can view several clips on Instagram, Lens says, “All the fans, we love you guys, but please don’t compare us. There is like the images of Charlotte and me, and they are like give a heart, or like this emoji for her and it’s honestly so emotionally draining.” She goes on to say how this is very common for female DJs, both with fans and the media but doesn’t exist for males. Both producers agree on this point and kindly ask that this behavior stops.
