Throughout the decades, many producers and DJs served as the foundation for the modern explosion of electronic music. J Saul Kane delivered incredible trip-hop productions throughout his career in the 80s and 90s.

Often producing under aliases such as Depth Charge or The Octagon Man, J Saul Kane left his mark on the underground trip-hop scene in the UK. The London-based artist utilized samples from kung-fu movies, spaghetti westerns, and commentary from soccer matches, the latter would help him find success on the charts. In 1999, Kane produced the track Goal under his Depth Charge moniker. The track featured game commentary following a score from his favorite striker, Jairzinho. Unfortunately, the producer passed away at the age of 55 on November 19th.

No details were given concerning the cause of death, but word quickly spread throughout the music industry. With artists such as Mark Moore, The Sabres of Paradise, and JD Twitch (Optimo) delivering tributes to J Saul Kane via social media, many others are revisiting his iconic catalog. Outside of Goal, tracks like Free-er Than Free and Romário are great places for the uninitiated to begin with his works. He also founded Vinyl Solution Records and later on, D.C. Recordings which would release works from Everything But The Girl, Padded Cell, and more.
