Mauro Picotto discusses his process on remixing classic tracks for new EP
A major part of the dance music scene is hearing classic songs remixed and edited for a more modern sound and style. Mauro Picotto has leaned into this process with his latest collection of updated mixes of his classic tracks.
For fans and producers alike, hearing a fresh remake or edit of a classic song can provide a jolt of energy and nostalgia all at once, While the classics technically never go out of style, changing audiences and production techniques make new edits exciting to hear, both online as well as at events. Mauro Picotto recognizes and appreciates this mindset and has leaned into it for his latest offering, Claxixx, Vol. 1 – EP. Across the collection, he looks at his works, New Time New Place, Verdi, and Lizard, and delivers updated versions of each plus new mixes from other artists as well. Released via Armada Music, Picotto can celebrate his past while looking to the future.
In a short interview with the team at A State of Trance, Mauro Picotto reveals that this is just the start of a growing collection of re-imagined classics. When asked about the updated mixes, he states, ‘In the past few years, I’ve heard so many bootlegs of old tracks get remade and sold as new music for the new clubber generation. I personally felt it was time to remake some of my most popular club hits and give them a new life on dance floors, and Armada Music was fully on board! The EP contains re-recordings of timeless originals and is the first volume of a series that will tie the past to the present and future.’ Fans will be excited to hear the fresh takes on his works, and Picotto also revealed that there will be plenty of new music in the pipeline too.
