Spotify disables Mod APKs, users face disruption
Spotify users worldwide faced widespread disruption in service after Spotify did a crackdown on modified apps also known as Mod APKs.
Mod APKs give users access to premium features without paying for them. These apps are developed by other people, not by Spotify itself. On one hand, Spotify has been increasing its prices, and its earnings beat all estimates last quarter. Now, it has started to crack down on pirated apps or modified versions of the original. Several discussions began to erupt on Twitter and other online forums after many users reported that their Spotify app was no longer working.
While Mod APKs were initially quite risky, making phones susceptible to security threats, they were extremely popular among users worldwide as people could access premium features without payment. It will be interesting to see how this crackdown will affect Spotify’s earnings. Spotify is also set to release its Wrapped feature soon.
