Moby drops expansive remix album ‘Always Centered at Night Remixes’
Moby delivers an ambitious new chapter in his career with the release of ‘Always Centered at Night Remixes’, a sprawling two-disc album featuring 58 tracks. Out now via Mute, the album showcases a mix of fresh reinterpretations and collaborations, including the standout “wild flame (dark1 remix)” featuring Danaé. The remix highlights Danaé’s luminous vocals alongside congas, ethereal synths, and intricate rhythms, bringing a new dimension to the original.
This remix album breathes fresh life into Moby’s 2023 project ‘Always Centered at Night’. Known for its introspective tone and innovative sound, the original collection featured 13 collaborative tracks, blending diverse voices and styles. Highlights included Lady Blackbird’s soulful “dark days,” serpentwithfeet’s haunting “on air,” and Benjamin Zephaniah’s stirring spoken-word track “where is your pride?”
The new remixes amplify this spirit of exploration, incorporating trip-hop, drum-and-bass, Latin house, and more. Collaborators such as Sudanese singer Gaidaa, London-based J.P. Bimeni, and Aynzli Jones add depth and texture, while Raquel Rodriguez’s Latin-inspired “feelings come undone” injects energy.
Moby, who has long celebrated the power of unique voices, drew inspiration for this project from his experiences in New York’s underground record shops during the 1980s. His commitment to finding fresh talent shines through, whether through YouTube discoveries or unexpected encounters at karaoke bars.
Beyond music, Moby’s activism and creativity remain integral to his identity. A vegan for over 35 years, he directed ‘Punk Rock Vegan Movie’ last year, a documentary connecting punk rock to animal rights. With ‘Always Centered at Night Remixes,’ he continues to redefine boundaries, crafting music that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant.
The album cements Moby’s status as an innovator, pushing the limits of electronic music while remaining true to his vision of collaboration and discovery.
