Darude discusses 25 years of his iconic hit ‘Sandstorm’

Before dance music hit the mainstream, Darude found global success at the turn of the century with his iconic hit Sandstorm. Now the producer reflects back on 25 years of the global smash.

Stopping by the Will Clarke podcast, Darude reflected on the enduring success and passion for his 1999 smash hit single, Sandstorm. In the interview, the producer is amazed at the single’s lasting impact, but he also wants to make sure that the rest of his debut album gets its proper due. While Sandstorm continues to be his most popular track, the song was released on his debut album, Before The Storm, and was a key element in the enduring legacy of Darude. In reflecting on the lasting legacy, he says:

‘It’s quite emotional every once in a while, like waking up on an airplane looking at the sunrise or sunset and thinking like holy hell, somebody is still paying me to do this stuff.”

Indeed, Sandstorm has truly been a generational masterpiece. When it was released in 1999, it exceeded expectations and continues to be a showstopper when played on stages around the world. It is impossible to overstate the importance of Darude and his musical impact, especially when witnessing the growth of electronic music in the years since he debuted.
