Drumsheds implements safety measures after license review
Drumsheds introduces updated safety measures to ensure a smoother and safer experience following a license review.
Drumsheds, a 15,000-capacity venue in Tottenham, London, has been granted permission to reopen following a licensing review, after narrowly avoiding losing its license. Following a series of serious incidents in late 2024, the venue has been ordered to implement stricter safety measures to address concerns raised by attendees, law enforcement, and the local council.
The repurposed IKEA building came under scrutiny after several troubling events, including the drug-related deaths of two attendees and a stabbing incident. These incidents, combined with complaints of overcrowding and poor organization, led to an emergency licensing review. A December event celebrating UKF‘s 15th anniversary further highlighted operational failings, with reports of lengthy queues, overcrowding, and unsafe crowd conditions.
During a review held by Enfield Council on January 7, investigators identified significant shortcomings in the venue‘s safety protocols. One key concern was the inadequate response by in-house medical staff, with claims that one deceased attendee had been treated but released back into the event instead of being sent to the hospital. Additionally, delays in reporting incidents to the police were criticized for hampering investigations.
To continue operating, Drumsheds must now adhere to stricter conditions. These include maintaining an increased police presence during events and ensuring that all serious incidents are reported immediately to law enforcement. However, the council did not implement all the measures recommended by the police, such as reducing venue capacity or introducing mandatory ID scanning.
The review emphasizes the value of ensuring safety at busy venues. Drumsheds now has the opportunity to show fans, artists, and the local community that it can provide a secure and well-organized environment while remaining a favorite destination for events.
