Behringer launches RD-78 Drum Machine, A replica of the Roland CR-78
Behringer has unveiled the RD-78, a replica of the iconic Roland CR-78 drum machine that was once a remarkable drum machine that redefined music production in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The RD-78 pays homage to the original drum machine that predates the legendary TR-808, featuring 15 distinct drum voices and 34 preset rhythm patterns. Just like the CR-78 from Roland, the RD-78 comes with vintage sounds that shaped genres like new wave, synth-pop, and early electronic music.
Originally popularized by artists like Phil Collins, Gary Numan, and Peter Gabriel, the CR-78 was one of the first programmable drum machines. Behringer’s version maintains the core appeal while adding modern flair and look. While the sounds are from the CR-78, the look and design are similar to the AIRA Compact series from Roland.
