A Concert for a Cause
On August 30, 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono headlined two legendary One to One Benefit Concerts at Madison Square Garden, delivering an afternoon and evening performance to a combined audience of 40,000. As a result, these concerts raised over $1.5 million to support children with special needs, including those from the Willowbrook State School in Staten Island, New York. Following this, Geraldo Rivera exposed the school’s shocking conditions and unethical medical practices in a televised investigation, prompting John and Yoko to take action.
John Lennon: Never-Before-Released Performances
The EP presents four songs from these performances, with three never-before-released recordings: ‘Well Well Well’ from the evening show, along with ‘Cold Turkey’ and Yoko’s ‘Don’t Worry Kyoko (Mummy’s Only Looking For A Hand In The Snow)’ from the afternoon set. Sean Ono Lennon produced the newly mixed ‘Instant Karma (We All Shine On),’ and Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon remastered it from the original multitrack tapes. Documentary Brings Concert to the Big Screen
The One to One concerts also serve as the foundation for the upcoming documentary ‘One to One: John & Yoko’, directed by Kevin Macdonald and produced by Mercury Studios. The film provides an in-depth look at John and Yoko’s time in Greenwich Village, exploring the period’s cultural and political climate through rare footage and remastered audio overseen by Sean Ono Lennon. Featuring never-before-seen material, the documentary offers fresh insight into John’s only full-length post-Beatles concert and the couple’s evolving approach to activism.
Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to the film, which premieres exclusively in IMAX on April 11 before expanding to additional theaters. Later in 2025, it will air on HBO and stream on Max. After debuting at the Venice Film Festival, the documentary premiered in North America at Telluride and featured in Sundance’s Spotlight section.

A production of Mercury Studios, Plan B, and KM Films, ‘One to One: John & Yoko’ brings this pivotal moment in music history to the big screen. The film, directed by Kevin Macdonald, is co-directed and edited by Sam Rice-Edwards and produced by Peter Worsley, Kevin Macdonald, and Alice Webb. Sean Ono Lennon, Marc Robinson, David Joseph, Steve Condie, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner serve as executive producers, with Simon Hilton as a consulting producer.
