With decades of success within the electronic music scene, Tiësto has seen many trends come and go. Now he discusses the willingness of artists to copy trends and try to hop on bandwagons to achieve success.

While never one to linger in the nostalgia of his own past for too long, Tiësto has continuously moved away from his early trance roots to deliver massive hits in a wide variety of styles. His knack for festival-ready anthems mixed with radio-sized hooks has kept him at the forefront of the industry and he has shown little signs of slowing down. With such longevity, and further trapped in an industry and public whose attention span is wildly reshaped by the rise of social media and viral efforts, up-and-coming, and even some more established artists can often get caught up chasing trends instead of following their own passion and sound influences.

In a recent interview with Zach Sang, Tiësto discusses the ever-growing trend of artists looking to copy and flourish by copying trends. When asked what trend he hates the most, he bluntly states, ‘I hate the trend that everybody’s trying to copy each other all of the time.’ From there, he dives further into the issue, citing how artists look to copy sounds and styles in hopes of gaining fans and status while being frustrated with the lack of creativity existing in that mindset. He does clarify at one point that he believes ‘the real artists are the ones who always come up with something new and fresh.’
