Deborah De Luca remixed Nelly Furtado’s ‘Say It Right’: Listen
Deborah De Luca has taken Nelly Furtado’s Say It Right to electronic music with an energetic remix
The Italian star DJ/producer has once again remixed a world-popular but classic song. Released on the last Friday of February, her remix of “Say It Right”, a collaboration between Nelly Furtado and Timbaland, is a new take on the song.
The story of Say It Right goes back to a silent dawn of 2006. That’s when Timbaland, one of the track’s collaborators, asked Nelly Furtado to go home because she looked tired. The Canadian-born singer refused, and they “jammed” in the studio all night. Later, the team worked on the best vocals and released the final track on 31 October 2006 on Nelly Furtado’s third studio album “Loose”. The rest is pure history, the track has grown into a world-famous R&B classic. Deborah De Luca, techno music DJ and producer from Italy, has now looked at this original single. Interestingly, it wasn’t just one Timbaland track that was revisited on the last Friday in February, as also Don Diablo revamped “The Way I Are”.
Deborah De Luca’s reworking promises to be a very energetic tune. The producer masterfully uses and transposes the very familiar melody of Say It Right to lead with a synthesizer. On top of that, she added the bouncy beat familiar from techno, which works very well with the synth. And last but not least, she kept Nelly Furtado’s beautiful and almost classic vocals, sometimes spicing them up with a little reverb to create an enhanced effect. It’s safe to say that this electronic musical reinterpretation has transformed the original work into pretty excellent club music. For Deborah De Luca, the first half of 2025 holds several interesting tour stops. In March, for example, she will perform at ARCANE in the USA and then in the UK at the Terminal V Festival in Edinburgh.
