Avicii anthem becomes theme song for 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship
Few outlets connect the global community in the way music and sports do. Now the two avenues are coming together as a classic Avicii anthem has been chosen as the main theme song for an upcoming World Championship in his home of Stockholm.
The 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark, this year. It will kick off on May 9th and continue until the final game at the end of the month. Bringing together teams from nations around the world, it showcases the love of hockey and will lean into the iconic legacy left behind by Avicii, having selected his iconic single Levels as the official anthem of the event. Recognizing his incredible global impact and the spotlight that the late producer helped bring to Stockholm, the choice of his music for the 2025 tournament was an easy choice for officials.
Adding to the magic of getting to hear Levels throughout the competition, the Swedish games will also take place at the famed Avicii Arena, a structure built in 1989 and dedicated to the producer in 2021. Beyond that, fans will be able to visit the Avicii Experience located in Sergels Torg, which will showcase replicas of his bedroom, Los Angeles studio, various awards, karaoke, and more. Speaking on the decision to focus on Avicii and his musical legacy, IIHF CEO Tony Wiréhn said, “Avicii is not just one of our time’s greatest music creators, he is also a unique and acclaimed symbol for Sweden. His music has a power and pulse that goes straight into the heart.”
