Fyre Festival 2 has officially been cancelled
Just over a month away from its planned start, Fyre Festival 2 has officially been cancelled. The announcement came just days after organizers said the festival would be delayed.
Perhaps the most famous festival to never officially open its gates, Fyre Festival became entrenched in the public consciousness when fans arrived in the Bahamas in 2017 for the luxury event, only to find themselves stranded amongst a partially erected set of infrastructure. The public backlash, ongoing commentary, and multiple documentaries all focused on founder Billy McFarland, who would serve jail time in the aftermath of the mess. Despite this massive hurdle, McFarland was dead set on delivering his vision for the festival and announced Fyre Festival 2 would take place at the end of May this year.
With tickets already on sale, many at exorbitant prices, fans and industry commentators all wondered if this would come to fruition or become another mess like the original event. Fortunately for attendees, no one would be stranded in a foreign land as the event was postponed over a week ago. Thankfully, avoiding the embarrassment and criminal aspect of the 2017 event, the cancellation was another strong mark against the event and McFarland. Now, with Fyre Festival 2 officially cancelled, Billy McFarland has announced that he will be selling the event and all of its assets to a team that he hopes will bring the festival to life. Details regarding the decision to cancel this year’s festival, as well as those regarding the sal,e can be found at the official Fyre Festival website.
