Gryffin clears the air about Ultra Miami livestream audio mishap

Gryffin has responded to confusion surrounding the audio from his set at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, held in March 2025.

In a recent post on Instagram, the producer and DJ explained why the livestream sounded different from what the audience at the festival actually heard. According to Gryffin, the broadcast accidentally picked up the cue mix from his headphones instead of the master output—the sound that’s meant to go out to the crowd and viewers.

In DJing, the cue mix refers to what a DJ hears in their headphones as they prepare and line up the next track. It helps them beatmatch and make sure transitions are smooth before bringing the next song into the main mix. It’s not meant to be public—it’s essentially a behind-the-scenes monitoring tool.

Gryffin wrote, “Everything sounded great in person, so I had no clue til I got off stage,” referring to how the error wasn’t noticed during the performance. He added that while the livestream sounded off to some listeners, the live audience heard the full intended mix.

He also described the difficulty of the set due to weather delays and wet equipment. Despite these challenges, he praised the Ultra team for managing the situation and making sure the performance went ahead.

He ended the post with a bit of humor: “Would Deadmau5 be proud?”
