This DJ Used a PlayStation 1 to Drop Beats — Here’s How
A recent viral video has shown that it’s actually possible to DJ using a Sony PlayStation 1, the classic gaming console released in the ’90s. The DJ behind the setup, going by the name DJ FREETHROW, demonstrated how to control audio tracks using standard PS1 controllers — and it’s as creative as it is nostalgic.
Using two PlayStation 1 consoles and wired controllers, the DJ explained the basic controls:
- Start button – Play/Pause the track
- L1 / R1 – Skip to the previous or next track
- L2 / R2 – Rewind or fast-forward through the track
Here’s the link to watch the reel on Instagram.
While this setup may not offer the sound quality or precision of professional DJ equipment, it is still surprisingly quite creative and fun. The video playfully acknowledges that the PlayStation SCPH-1001 model isn’t going to deliver “audiophile-grade” quality — but it’s still good fun.
Whether it goes viral or not, one thing’s for sure: DJing on a PlayStation 1 is officially possible.
