Axwell releases ‘Until The Lights Go Out’, his first single in 7 years

Amidst the recent report that Axwell sold Axtone Records to Pophouse Entertainment, the Swedish legend has quietly worked his magic in the studio, something he hasn't done in a while, at least not on his own. Until The Lights Go Out, his first single in 7 long years, premiered at Ultra Europe last year and caused quite the interest in fans. The track has been a regular mainstay in Axwell's sets since. CARMA, the vocalists on Until The Lights Go Out, is a new project between James Carter and Tom Martin, who are both extremely successful artists and songwriters. James Carter, for instance, worked on one of MEDUZA's biggest hits, Bad Memories. Tom Martin, on the other hand, wrote songs for globally relevant artists such as Martin Garrix, Snoop Dogg, and Duncan Laurence.

7 long years have passed since Axwell released his last single Nobody Else on the beloved Axtone. 2025 is shaping out to be a fruitful year in electronic dance music, and Axwell’s newest single proves that point. Until The Lights Go Out, together with CARMA, marks an intriguing new chapter in the long-spanning career of the brilliant Swede.

In Axwell’s first solo Ultra Miami performance, Until The Lights Go Out was one of the biggest highlights of the whole set. With powerful kicks and a vigorous synth, the track is easily one of the most hard-hitting songs of Axwell’s entire discography, even beating out his 2016 single Barricade in terms of pure energy. CARMA has showcased the wide array of their vocal spectrum, delivering a performance of the highest order. Until The Lights Go Out marks another notable addition to Axtone, who celebrate 20 years of existence in 2025—no better way to kickstart the celebrations than to welcome back the label boss in style.

Axwell has never been as active on his own as he is right now. With a plethora of solo sets that span across festivals such as Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland Winter, and EDC China, he has proved to everyone that he still has very much got it. More new projects by him and the superstar group Swedish House Mafia are on the way in 2025, alongside the inception of Superhuman, a brand new creative studio and record label. On Superhuman, fans can expect music from Swedish House Mafia, and 2/3 of the group, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello.
