Calvin Harris responds to Chicane’s accusation of plagiarism
Taking to social media, Calvin Harris delivered a long rebuke of Chicane’s recent accusation of plagiarism. The video not only aims to clear his name, but also calls out Chicane for actually ripping off the song he produced.
With the release of his new single Blessings, Calvin Harris received criticism from Chicane for plagiarizing one of his classic tracks. In a video posted to social media, the producer plays his iconic hit Offshore, showcasing how the two-chord patterns and sounds appear to line up. The video was uploaded with he caption “copyright?” as he called out Harris for stealing his music.
Although normally much quieter on social media in recent years, Calvin Harris felt that a response was due in this instance and shot his video comparing the two songs. He started by trying to line up the chords and pitch of the tracks, before finding the specific section that was looped to claim afoul. From there, the full Scottish accent of Harris comes out as he screams at the screen at the accusation. Not stopping there, he goes on to suggest that Offshore is a direct lift of the 1983 Tangerine Dream hit Love On A Real Train. It is certainly an entertaining watch, but beware of some crude language from the producer.
