Ed Sheeran starts a new chapter, announces new album ‘Play’
Ed Sheeran has officially revealed his next studio album, Play, scheduled for release on 12th September 2025. With this announcement, he also shared the introspective new single ‘Old Phone’, available now.
Following the conclusion of his long-running Mathematics series, Sheeran enters a new era marked by experimentation and personal growth. This upcoming record pulls from his global touring experience, blending musical traditions from India, Iran, and Ireland into a cohesive pop-forward framework. However, he balances that exploration with a return to acoustic ballads and confessional songwriting—reminding listeners of the sound that first made him a household name.
In a statement, Sheeran explained that Play was born from a desire to reclaim joy after a difficult personal chapter. “I made this record all over the world,” he said, noting that it was completed in Goa. “It’s a rollercoaster of emotions that reflects who I am as a person, a father, and an artist.”
The first single, ‘Old Phone’, takes listeners down memory lane. As Sheeran sifts through an old device untouched since 2015, he revisits snapshots of his past—reigniting conversations, regrets, and unresolved connections. Produced by Blake Slatkin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, the track carries a quiet weight, rooted in his acoustic foundations but shaped by years of lived experience.
Pre-orders for Ed Sheeran upcoming album Play are now open here, with more unconventional moments promised in the lead-up to release.
