Authorities in Ibiza have intercepted one of the island’s largest recent drug hauls after detaining a 22-year-old man who arrived from the Netherlands to the White Isle with over 163,000 ecstasy pills packed openly in his luggage.

Police flagged the traveler at Ibiza Airport after noticing the suspicious weight and appearance of his suitcases. Upon inspection, they uncovered approximately 50 kilograms of pink tablets, many bearing the stamp “2CB”—a synthetic hallucinogen popular in nightlife settings. The sheer volume and unhidden nature of the cargo left little doubt about its intended purpose.

Police arrested the man on the spot, and he now faces major criminal charges, including suspected trafficking of illicit substances. Local authorities consider the seizure one of the largest in recent years, noting the attention it drew for both its scale and timing.

Notably, the bust occurred just as Ibiza’s high season begins, prompting a broader conversation about drug control efforts on the island. Each year, law enforcement intensifies operations ahead of summer, but such a blatant attempt has heightened concerns among local officials.

Meanwhile, Spanish National Police have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with further inquiries underway to determine if the man acted alone or as part of a wider network.
