Armin van Buuren opens Ushuaïa Ibiza residency with a 6-hour masterclass set

After an eight-year hiatus from long-format solo shows on the island, Armin van Buuren returned to Ushuaïa Ibiza on June 8 with a marathon six-hour set to launch his 2025 residency. The Dutch icon, who’s long called Ibiza a second home, stretched deep into his catalogue and future plans, delivering a performance that felt both personal and meticulously crafted. “What a night!” he said after the show. “The last time I did this was 8 years ago but this one was even better. The people showed up early and the energy was just through the roof. Thank you to everyone for making this one extra special, can’t wait to be back next week!”

Coming off a strong run that included the April release of ‘Breathe Out’ and major festival sets at A State Of Trance, EDC Las Vegas, and Ultra Miami, van Buuren arrived fully dialed in. From the moment doors opened, the crowd built steadily—staying locked in as he wove through progressive, trance, techno, and unreleased gems.

In a standout moment, he brought on Malou to perform their latest single live. He also premiered a remix of Anyma & Argy’s ‘Voices In My Head’, and dropped key highlights like ‘Es Vedrà’, the Hardwell collab ‘Follow The Light’, Lilly Palmer’s take on Audio Bullys’ ‘We Don’t Care’, and a modern techno adaptation of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’.

Moreover, the set served as a preview of the bold direction he’s taking this season. The residency runs for nine Sundays—first from June 8 to July 6, then picking up again September 7 through September 28. Each date features a curated lineup that reflects his evolving sound while welcoming a wide range of collaborators and genre leaders.

This year’s guests include Vini Vici, Cosmic Gate, Oliver Heldens, Lilly Palmer, Marlon Hoffstadt, Massano, D.O.D, and others, covering everything from trance and progressive to melodic techno and mainstage-ready anthems. The opening night, though, was a deliberate deep dive into van Buuren’s own journey—an extended session that laid the foundation for a season designed to surprise.
