Apple’s new Logic Pro 11.2 (macOS) and 2.2 (iPadOS) updates fix a common frustration in music production: forgetting to hit record. The big new feature, Flashback Capture, remembers everything—even if you didn’t press record. So if you play something great by accident, you can still get it back. Each loop is saved in a take folder, ready to edit just like a normal recording.

It works quietly in the background, capturing both MIDI and audio. This means even random riffs or vocal ideas are safely stored. For musicians who like to experiment or jam, it takes away the stress of always having to press record.

The Stem Splitter tool now separates not just vocals, bass, and drums, but also guitars and pianos. This makes it easier to break down a song into its individual parts for remixing, practicing, or rearrangement. There are now presets to help export just what you need like acappella versions, instrumentals, etc.

The update also brings smaller changes. A new track search function helps manage large sessions by letting users find tracks by name or number to help save time. Genres like drum and bass, lo-fi tape textures, and progressive metal have received new sound packs as well.

While the Flashback Capture feature has been available in other DAWs before, the in-house smart stem separation is still a feature most DAWs don’t provide. These updates make it easier to stay in the zone without constantly tweaking settings. Check out the release notes here.
