Home Tech Primary school teaches children how to DJ at lunchtime

At Janvrin Primary School in Jersey, lunchtime has turned a little louder, a little more creative, and a lot more fun, as reported by ITV News. Instead of just sitting down to eat or heading to the playground, kids are learning how to become young DJs — mixing music and discovering a whole new way to express themselves.

For this, Rebecca Lawrence, the school’s music head teamed up with local DJ and youth mentor Sam Marks. Sam wanted to bring modern music tools into schools. He wanted to show children that music isn’t only about reading notes or playing traditional instruments but it’s also about feeling it and using technology to create something unique.

Over 100 children have taken part in these lunchtime DJ sessions. Some kids were so into it, they were named the school’s “DJs in residence.” These young DJs got extra time to practice and eventually performed in front of the whole school at Friday disco sessions. For many, it was the first time they stood in front of a crowd and shared something they made.
