Hardwell’s SpaceControl 2 Plugin Aims to Solve Stereo Width Problems

SoundAcustica Audio and Studio DMI have released a new version of their stereo sound plugin called SpaceControl 2. Popular DJ and music producer Hardwell helped shape the idea based on his own studio needs.

In 2021, while working on his album Rebels Never Die, Hardwell talked with Luca from Studio DMI about creating a plugin. They wanted something that could make sounds wider without causing phase issues, and ended up creating this plugin.

SpaceControl 2 works with most music software (VST3, AU, AAX formats) and runs smoothly even on slower computers. It’s not a regular Acqua Effect plugin—it’s an “Acqua Hybrid,” meaning it mixes Acustica’s tech with outside code for better performance. The main goal of this plugin is to help make your music sound wide and clear.

Speaking about the plugin, Hardwell said “Space Control 2 is a multiband stereo enhancer that includes a never-before-seen phase limiter, which makes sure you can widen your sound as much as you want without having the regular phase problems. This is the ultimate stereo tool and the only one that you will ever need for the studio.”

There are two versions: SpaceControl 2 and SpaceControl 2 Pro. The Pro version gives more control, like support for five bands, a Mono to Stereo mode, and more. Both versions include oversampling, a dry/wet mix knob, a cleaner and larger interface, etc.
