ILLUGEN: Waves’ New AI Tool turns Prompts into Audio Samples

Waves has introduced ILLUGEN, an application that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to generate original audio samples based on user prompts.

This tool allows users to create one-shots, loops, and FX by using prompts, such as “a violin made of ice, playing in a frozen cave” or “a drum fill from an old reggae record.”

For a prompt, ILLUGEN generates three variations of the requested sample. Users can specify the desired BPM and durations. The application also features a randomization function for inspiration and a history tab to review previously generated samples. Generated samples are saved to the hard drive.

Waves asserts that all samples produced by ILLUGEN are original and free for users. It also states that the model was trained exclusively on documented, legally owned material.

Pricing plans have three tiers: Basic, Premium, and Pro. The Basic plan has 150 credits per month for $7.99, Premium has 300 credits for $12.99, and Pro includes 600 credits for $19.99. Each plan comes with the same number of bonus credits on payment while unused credits roll over monthly. A trial option with 30 free credits is available for users to explore the application.
