New David Bowie Centre to open at V&A South Kensington in 2025
The V&A Museum has officially announced that the David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts will open at its South Kensington site in 2025. After acquiring Bowie’s archive in 2023, the museum will now transform over 80,000 items into an immersive cultural journey, with music, fashion, art, and performance at its core.
Importantly, the centre will launch with two special exhibitions curated by close collaborators and rising talents. Nile Rodgers, who famously co-produced Let’s Dance, will explore Bowie’s impact on Black culture. In parallel, Mercury Prize-nominated band The Last Dinner Party will curate an exhibit titled The Main Character, reflecting Bowie’s influence on identity and self-expression.

The centre will feature never-before-seen lyrics, letters, set designs, and instruments spanning Bowie’s career. According to the V&A, visitors can expect “a global first: the most comprehensive collection of its kind housed in one location.” (Source: Davidbowie.com)
Meanwhile, Nile Rodgers emphasized Bowie’s boundary-breaking legacy: “David was an innovator. Through this curation, I want to highlight his role in championing diversity, art, and sound.” (Source: Davidbowie.com)
With the V&A positioning this space as both archive and inspiration hub, the David Bowie Centre promises to become a landmark for fans and creatives alike. It will join the museum’s new V&A East Storehouse in Stratford, further extending Bowie’s legacy into future generations.
