Eric Prydz reveals reason for prerecorded set at Sónar Festival

During a recent performance, iconic DJ Eric Prydz committed a seemingly unforgivable sin: he delivered a prerecorded set to the audience. While this seems out of character for the Swedish DJ, he took to Reddit to explain the situation to his fans.

With decades of success both on and off the stage, Eric Prydz is well-respected for his artistic abilities and talents as a DJ. Unfortunately, a recent situation at the Sónar Festival caused him to take a drastic step and play with a prerecorded set. Viewing the video of the performance, fans in the audience are none the wiser to the ruse, but an eagle-eyed viewer figured it out while watching the live stream. Taking to Reddit, the fan noted that only one waveform was displayed on the mixers, an odd sign. Not to let down his audience, Prydz responded in the thread and explained the chaotic situation that led to him using a prerecorded set.

In his response, Eric Prydz does admit to using a prerecorded set but explains that it was his only option due to faulty equipment on stage. In the post, the producer says, “Not sure who of you were there on the night but the long delay and all the people running around on stage in silence was due to a malfunction of the setup I was supposed to perform on.” He further reveals that only one CDJ was working with the USB, so instead of cancelling the set, he looked to his tour manager for help. Having recorded practice sets for the programming of his Holosphere 2.0 show, he was able to utilize the performance in order to entertain the 15,000 fans on hand.

Surely not the ideal situation for someone with the stature of Eric Prydz, but kudos to him for showing up for the audience and coming clean about the frustrating situation to avoid controversy with his fanbase.
