Between Thursday night and Friday morning, Tomorrowland transformed into a race against time. After a massive fire reduced the iconic 45-meter-high mainstage to rubble, organizers launched an overnight mission to rebuild. Crews worked nonstop, determined to reopen the festival without delay.
Unexpectedly, help arrived from an unlikely source: Metallica. The legendary rock band stepped in by providing crucial soundboxes, enabling construction teams to keep pace with the tight deadline. Thanks to that support—and relentless effort from the Tomorrowland crew—the festival gates opened on Friday as scheduled.
As the news broke, Martin Garrix shared his gratitude publicly. On Instagram, he posted a photo with Lars Ulrich, drummer and founding member of Metallica, writing:
“I can not believe I’m actually typing this… but my set at Tomorrowland is still happening! 🙏 Massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible @tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles — and to @Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts 🤘❤️”
He had promised a unique show, calling it “the most unique Tomorrowland ever,” and he delivered. Martin Garrix officially closed the mainstage on Friday night with a powerful performance, streamed live to fans around the world.
