Sister Bliss reflects on Faithless’ return without Maxi Jazz
After an eight-year touring break and the heartbreaking loss of Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss opens up about returning to the stage and keeping the spirit of Faithless alive.
Faithless co-founder Sister Bliss recently opened up in a Sky TV interview about returning to the stage. She reflected on the band’s first live performances since the loss of their iconic frontman, Maxi Jazz. Born Maxwell Fraser, Maxi Jazz was the lyrical heartbeat of Faithless. His powerful voice and thought-provoking words helped define era-defining tracks like ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God Is a DJ.’ He passed away peacefully in his sleep in 2022, sparking an outpouring of love from fans and fellow artists around the world.
Asked by Sky about what audiences might expect from the new shows, Sister Bliss responded, “So it’s going to be an emotional one. After an eight‑year hiatus, I didn’t actually think we were going to play live again. I’d kind of accepted that.”
Yet fan demand proved impossible to resist. “They’re like, ‘When can we hear you play your music again? When, when, when?’” she recalled. With heavy hearts, Sister Bliss and Faithless co-founder Rollo Armstrong accepted the challenge, collaborating with show designer Jvan Morand to craft a tribute that was “beautiful and respectful and creative.”
Their comeback launch in London proved deeply moving. “My friend came up to me and he said, ‘Oh Blissy, I’ve never seen so many grown men cry. I wish he [Maxi] was here to see how loved he was.’” The performance honored Maxi’s legacy while celebrating Faithless’s musical roots.
Faithless are taking the tribute to stages across Europe. Upcoming dates include Weekender Festival in Jersey, Nieuwpoort Beach Festival in Belgium, Das Fest in Germany, Parken Festival in Norway, Primer Music Festival in Greece, and more.
