Tame Impala delivers his first single under Columbia Records: Listen
Tame Impala, one of the most respected and innovative producers and songwriters out there, returns with his latest single. The new music marks a fresh era as it is his first release under the Columbia Records imprint.
Having emerged in the 21st century to deliver a fresh take on synth-focused electronic music, Tame Impala has earned critical and commercial acclaim for his works. Beginning a new era for the project, which is now signed under Columbia Records, he has delivered a beautiful new single for fans. Invoking the spirit of Acid House circa 1989, End of Summer is another example of his ability to experiment in the studio while maintaining a sense of freedom and expression through his works. Opening with a haunting layer of shifting synths and an audio sample, it quickly gives way to a massive kick, subtle lead, and light percussive touches.
The vocals open with “Everybody knows how I feel about you, but you can act surprised if you need to,” a line that is honest and apathetic all at once. It sets the mood of the track, shrouded in quick romance, misunderstood feelings, and the often emotionally difficult moments of feeling apathetic toward another person you have shared moments with. The track ebbs and flows across seven plus minutes, allowing for Tame Impala to explore different sonic settings to match the mood. Alongside the single, a short film/ music video was shot by multi-disciplinary artist Julian Klincewicz.
