Neighbors express frustration over higher fireworks at Tomorrowland: “‘We love our neighbours’? Now it feels like an empty slogan”

The announcement that Tomorrowland will once again use higher-reaching fireworks this weekend hasn’t sat well with some local residents, despite the festival receiving official approval from safety authorities. “Just because it’s allowed doesn’t mean it’s necessary,” said Jan Dierckx (62) of the local neighborhood council. “Barely a week and a half after the Mainstage fire, the trauma is still fresh.” Tomorrowland has stated it will enter into dialogue with the neighborhood council. Mayor responds to Tomorrowland fireworks plans: “I follow the advice of safety services”

Mayor Jeroen Baert (N-VA) has confirmed that Tomorrowland will launch high-altitude fireworks again this weekend, despite growing frustration from nearby residents. “I understand the perception,” he said, “but three separate agencies approved the fireworks permit ahead of the festival. We can’t simply deviate from that.” The statement follows criticism from locals still shaken by the recent Mainstage fire. Via HLN.be
