Lisa, 17, spent Tuesday night with friends in Amsterdam Leidseplein and left at about 3:30 a.m. on her e-bike, worried that someone might steal it if she left it behind. While riding toward Abcoude, she called police to report a man following her. Meanwhile, officers tracked her phone to Holterbergweg in Duivendrecht and discovered her body in a ditch at 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Her family, through Namens de Familie, said, “Our hearts are broken,” and urged media not to publish her surname or photo.

At first, investigators appealed for witnesses—including a scooter rider and the occupants of a microcar and a van seen nearby—and the public responded with dozens of tips. Since then, police have taken a 22-year-old man into custody. Although they have not released his name, reports indicate he also faces charges in two separate sexual offense cases.

In response, a coalition of Amsterdam venues launched the #rechtopdenacht (“right to the night”) campaign, calling for safe journeys “from the dancefloor to home.” Clubs including Garage Noord, BRET, Radio Radio, Chin Chin Club, Melkweg, Chicago Social Club, Jimmy Woo, THE OTHER SIDE, Club Up and Club NYX amplified the message on marquees and billboards. Moreover, a public fundraiser surpassed €430,000 within days, coordinated by GH+O and Danique de Jong, to spread the campaign nationwide.

Additionally, Spinoza20First school leader Kimberley Kaizer said staff are preparing an appropriate memorial for Lisa, who recently graduated its pre-university track. Mayor Maarten Divendal expressed condolences on behalf of De Ronde Venen, while actress Nienke ’s Gravemade condemned victim-blaming and demanded the right for women to move safely at any hour
