Damian Lazarus has shared a heartfelt tribute to his ex-wife and closest friend, Zoe Lazarus, who passed away in London after battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Despite losing both her parents to the disease at a young age, Zoe refused to let it define her. Just three weeks before her passing, the two danced together at Glastonbury, embracing life despite her condition.

Their story began in the early days of drum ’n’ bass, with Zoe working at Phuture Trax and Damian at Dazed & Confused. They co-founded a Shoreditch club and DJ’d as PM Scientists, with Zoe also earning respect as a producer, highlighted by her remix of a track by German kraut rock pioneers Can. Later, she built a celebrated career as a trend forecaster, working with major global agencies and becoming one of the most sought-after experts in her field.

The pair married in 2004, celebrating with sets from Soulwax, Rob Mello, and Jonny Rock, and honeymooned in Thailand, embracing adventure and music. By 2008, they transitioned from partners to best friends, maintaining a deep connection that lasted until her final days.

Remembering her spirit, Damian recalled her joy and determination: she danced through the night at Glastonbury, knowing it might be her last. Born in Melbourne on Christmas Eve, Zoe passed away in London just before the Perseids Meteor Shower. “I will miss you so much Zoe,” Damian Lazarus wrote.
