Pendulum return with first studio album in 15 years, ‘Inertia’

Pendulum have finally released their first studio album in 15 years, unveiling ‘Inertia’—a record that bridges the group’s trademark sound with new ideas shaped in 2025. Produced by Rob Swire and Owen Charles at the band’s London studio, the 16-track album represents a journey that began in 2020, following the momentum of their Elemental (2021) and Anima (2023) EPs.

“I was basically testing how far we could push Pendulum,” Swire explained. “The Prodigy were always the benchmark. They started as pure rave, but they evolved into their own identity. I wanted Pendulum to do the same—never locked into drum and bass or metal, just following what feels right.”

Although the release marks the group’s first LP since 2010’s Immersion, fans will recognize many tracks. With singles and EP material folded in, only four songs arrive as brand-new, two of which serve as interludes. While this strategy reflects today’s streaming landscape, it does soften the excitement for listeners expecting a completely fresh experience.

Still, Swire describes Inertia as “the sound of Pendulum finding themselves again,” adding that personal struggles influenced the record’s intensity. The result balances the band’s familiar hard-edged energy with softer, more experimental moments and collaborations that broaden their scope.

Recently ranked #16 on Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s list of The 50 Greatest Australian Electronic Acts, Pendulum prove with Inertia that they remain a vital force. The hope now is that fans won’t have to wait another decade and a half for the next chapter.
