Wunderkammer launches WoO.1, a mini sampler with built-in mic and sequencer
Wunderkammer, a new hardware maker based in Hong Kong, has launched its first product, the WoO.1. The WoO.1 is a pocket-sized, battery-powered sampler and looper.
The WoO.1 has a large amount of features in contrast to its small size. It sports a clean white case with orange knobs, reminiscent of Teenage Engineering’s design. It offers Scissor-Switch keys and intuitive LED cues in place of a screen. Here, users can work in either sampler or looper mode, with internal stereo sampling at 44.1 kHz/16-bit. The storage can hold about 247 MB, which should be enough for roughly 24 minutes of audio.
In sampler mode, you can record sound using the built-in microphone or upload via USB-C, then assign samples to one of 140 available slots. Looper mode allows for layering multiple tracks, where existing loops can be resampled into new textures. It also comes with built-in effects like low-pass, high-pass, and pitch shifting. There’s also a one-button undo and a built-in arpeggiator for creative momentum. On the sides, the WoO.1 includes USB-C for power and MIDI, plus a headphone jack and power switch. A notable limitation is the absence of an audio input. Due to this, sampling is limited to the mic or preloaded sound files. Battery life is said to be up to 5 hours with speakers, or up to 50 hours with headphones.
The Kickstarter campaign launches today, offering an early bird 35% discount (around $150 off). While the WoO.1 isn’t a full-featured studio sampler, it’s an appealing tool for mobile sketching, experimental ideas, or quick musical sketching on the go.
