Calvin Harris accuses former advisor of $22.5M theft
Calvin Harris has filed an arbitration demand against Thomas St. John for $22.5M theft
In mid-September, Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris filed an arbitration demand against his former financial advisor for $22.5M theft. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that St. John used the funds for a “boondoggle” development project in Hollywood.
Like many other stars, successful Scottish DJ and producer Adam Wiles, aka Calvin Harris, entrusted his finances to an advisor. They had been working together for a long time, and although everything seemed to be going well, on September 12, he filed a lawsuit against his former financial advisor. The arbitration proceedings filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court allege a massive theft of $22.5 million against Thomas St. John. According to the documents, St. John purchased a plot of land in 2021, on which a studio and an office were planned. But when the financial advisor ran out of money, he took advantage of his relationship with Wiles and made the multi-million dollar investment in the DJ’s name.
Of this, $10 million was put into a loan, which was expected to be repaid by January 31, per the interest rate. The remaining $12.5 million was structured as a stake in the project. It is particularly interesting how and when Calvin Harris decided to take legal action. After all, Thomas St. John, Inc., the American company associated with the financial advisor, filed for bankruptcy in February this year. Wiles’ team describes the case in the documents as a complete boondoggle, or at the very least a fraud. “Mr. Wiles has not received a single penny in return for that investment, and, indeed, respondents have not even started developing or building the project,”, the filings state. The lawsuit also alleges breach of contract, fraud, and malpractice.
Interestingly, Calvin Harris made headlines in August this year when he put his $25 million Beverly Hills estate up for sale.
