Home Tech Elektron releases new hardware sampler Tonverk

Elektron has officially unveiled the Tonverk, a new performance sampler that many had speculated would follow in the footsteps of the Octatrack. After weeks of leaks and teasers, the Swedish company confirmed the release, with the device now available on its website and through select retailers. Priced at €1,495, Tonverk has positioned itself as a high-end tool for producers and live performers.

The Tonverk arrives with a design that is similar to both the Digitakt and Octatrack MKII. It features a wide layout, a display, and controls to enhance personalized workflows. One of the standout features is its ability to display stereo waveforms. A newly introduced “Step Edit” button offers sequencing control, hinting at Elektron’s focus on live performance and precision programming.

Specifically, Tonverk offers eight stereo audio tracks, four bus tracks, three send tracks, and a mix track. Each track can run one of four “machines”: Single, Multi, Subtrack,s or MIDI tracks for external control. Loading options include 2 USB-C ports, SD card loading, and even an auto-sampler function designed to streamline instrument creation. This gives the Tonverk flexibility.

While Elektron has not directly labeled the Tonverk as the Octatrack’s replacement, the comparisons are inevitable. The Octatrack has been a staple in hardware-based sampling and live performance since 2010, and many have long anticipated a successor.

Price: $1599
