Everything But The Girl announce definitive compilation
Everything But The Girl, the iconic UK duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, will release their career-spanning compilation The Best of Everything But The Girl on November 14th via Buzzin’ Fly/Chrysalis. Available now for pre-order on double gatefold vinyl—mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road—and CD, the 16-track collection charts more than four decades of groundbreaking music.
From Indie Beginnings to Global Hits
From their 1982 jazz-folk debut Night and Day to the forward-looking electronica of 2023’s Fuse, the compilation captures both the duo’s biggest hits and timeless deep cuts. Speaking about the sequencing, Tracey Thorn explained: “We always liked albums that had a fast side and a slow side, so we thought we’d start with the bangers and wind down with the ballads.”
That means club staples like Todd Terry’s remix of ‘Missing‘, the breakbeat-driven ‘Walking Wounded”’, and Watt’s enduring mash-up ‘Tracey in My Room‘ anchor the record’s first half. Later, the set flows back to acoustic ballads and orchestral gems, including their UK Top 3 cover of ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It‘ and the recent reflective single ‘Run a Red Light.‘
Ben Watt added: “It also makes the album run backwards in time—it gives you a sense of clubland back to bedsit.”
Legacy of Reinvention
Their legacy includes millions of records sold, a run of UK gold albums, and crossover success with 1996’s platinum-certified Walking Wounded. After two decades of solo projects, the duo reunited in 2023 for Fuse, which climbed to No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and won them the MPG Award for Self-Producing Artist of the Year.
With The Best of Everything But The Girl, Thorn and Watt present a definitive snapshot of their evolution—one that highlights their ability to constantly reinvent themselves while remaining unmistakably their own.
The Best of Everything But The Girl arrives November 14th. Pre-order now via the duo’s official site.
