Faithless unveil eighth studio album Champion Sound featuring final Maxi Jazz recording
Faithless return with their boundary-pushing eighth studio album, Champion Sound, arriving September 5th via ADA on double vinyl and all digital platforms. The project marks their first full-length in five years and introduces a four-part odyssey that pays homage to the band’s legacy while pushing their sound into bold new terrain.
At the heart of Champion Sound lies a moving tribute: the final recorded vocal of late frontman Maxi Jazz. His voice carries the album’s opening track, Forever Free, an emotionally charged anthem that sets the tone for a record steeped in funk, groove, and deep lyrical resonance. Guest contributions further enrich the journey, including Bebe Rexha, Antony Szmierek, Emmanuel Jal, L.S.K., and spoken-word poet Suli Breaks, who inject fresh layers of perspective and emotion.
Faithless describe the project as “music I personally would and do dance to. After the experiences of the first three sides of the album, this fourth and final side builds its foundations on the simple pleasure of funkiness, and stands as a tribute to the mash-up UK sound system culture that brought bass-shaking music to life on our streets.”
The album unfolds in four thematic acts. Forever Free blends soaring chords with Maxi’s unforgettable voice, followed by tracks like In Your Own Groove, which pairs soulful hooks with trancey textures. Rollo, long-time band member, likens Fugitive to “if Pink Floyd or Spiritualized made house music,” while Peace And Noise—featuring Suli Breaks—delivers a propulsive spoken-word call to arms.
With Champion Sound, Faithless prove once again that they remain at the forefront of electronic music’s evolution. By weaving together house, trance, funk, and poetry, they honor Maxi Jazz’s eternal presence while carving a bold new chapter in their storied career.
