An act that should be on everyone’s radar, we could not be any happier to have caught up with Modera themselves, as they discuss main inspirations and influences, the origin of their style of play, the release of their sophomore album ‘Together, Apart,’ future plans and so much more.
Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you provide us with an insight on the main inspirations/influences that led to your chosen career pathway in music?
“Music has always been a blend of personal passion and environment for us. Evan comes from a classical background and I come from the DJ space, so our paths converged with a shared curiosity for how emotion and rhythm intersect. Growing up in Seattle also shaped us massively. there’s this moody intensity in the Pacific Northwest, and the indie-electronic scene here showed us how cinematic sound could live on the dancefloor. Beyond that, film has been a constant inspiration. We’ve always admired how a score can instantly transport you to a place emotionally, and that naturally translated into the way we wanted to produce music.”
Renowned for your unique approach towards music production, we would like to know the origin of your style of play and how it has evolved overtime?
“When we first started (over 10 years ago), our music leaned more into future bass and the future house. Over time, though, we gravitated towards creating what we call “cinematic house,” weaving orchestral textures, strings, and atmospheric layers into dance music. That shift wasn’t just stylistic; it was about being honest to what moved us emotionally. With each release, our sound has matured, becoming more patient, more deliberate, and more expansive. We’re constantly refining the balance between detail and big-picture storytelling.”

With versatility a key aspect in the dance scene, could you talk us through the significance of adaptation, and how different genres may impact your sound?
“Adaptation is essential because dance music never sits still, the genres evolve, trends come and go. For us, it’s less about chasing those trends and more about absorbing influences and letting them shape us organically. We’ve experimented with breakbeat, melodic bass, even some punk/electronic hybrids along the way. All those experiments feed back into our “home” sound. We don’t enter the studio thinking about genre, but rather about building records that feel true to us, usually that is cinematic, emotional, and immersive. That mindset allows us to adapt without losing identity.”
Finding unity in separation, ‘Together, Apart’ evokes a wide range of emotions. We would like to know how this body of work came to life, as well as the significance behind each track’s cohesiveness?
“The title actually came before the music. We were living on opposite sides of the country when we started writing, so distance was our first challenge and our first inspiration. As the album grew, the idea of distance expanded beyond geography, into relationships, friendships, and even our own sense of self. Halfway through, we found ourselves back in the same city, which brought the whole idea full circle. Cohesion came from treating the project almost like a filmscore. Each track plays a role in the narrative arc, some build tension, others release it. So by the end, the listener has traveled through peaks, valleys, and moments of reflection that all connect under that theme of finding unity in separation.”
On a similar note, each track on the album offers listeners a wider glimpse into your artistic vision. Could you talk us through this musical journey and how you perceive your own experience in the dance scene thus far?
“This album was about challenging ourselves emotionally and sonically. Tracks like ‘Faceless’ speak to the disconnection we’ve felt in relationships, while ‘Walk You Home’ reflects devotion and showing up for someone despite uncertainty. Together, they frame the duality of letting go and holding on. For us, the journey through the dance scene has been about building trust in that vulnerability realizing that fans connect most when the music is deeply personal. The dance-floor becomes less about escapism and more about shared human experience, which is exactly what we’re trying to translate through our sound.”

A melodic and progressive house masterpiece, we would like to know the key elements that brought this album to life, as well as the impact this approach will have on your sound when going forward?
“The core elements were orchestral instrumentation, cinematic soundscapes, and intentional pacing. We leaned into string swells, piano motifs, and vocal textures as the emotional anchors for many tracks. Another key factor was collaboration, artists like Blonde Maze and CVBZ brought fresh energy and new perspectives when we hit creative walls. Going forward, this approach sets the tone for us to expand beyond traditional house formats. We’ve realized our strength lies in creating music that’s not just functional for clubs but resonant on a cinematic, emotional level. That will continue to guide our sound.”
Marking a major milestone in your career, could you provide us with any hints on what the future holds for Modera, always in terms of new music, upcoming collaborations and live performances?
“The future feels like a new chapter. We’ve envisioned a show that’s more immersive than anything we’ve done before, stepping away from just DJ sets to incorporate live keys, pads, vocals, and percussion. We’re also excited about the collaborations that have pushed us into new creative territory, which has helped provide a new perspective on how we want to create in the future. Most importantly, we’re eager to reconnect with fans in person and bring these songs to life on stage the way they were meant to be heard.”
