Armin van Buuren reveals favourite trance track ever
A legendary act by all means, Armin van Buuren has revealed his favourite trance track of all time, and this is one classic that has shaped the genre in more ways than none.
In the midst of the iconic debut collaboration between Armin van Buuren and Adam Beyer in the form of ‘Techno Trance,’ a poll was conducted in order for various acts to reveal their all time favourite track from either genre, and among the answers, the ASOT boss made known the one trance track that he considers his ultimate favourite, and that is none other than L.S.G.’s ‘Netherworld.’
Originally released in 1996, on the immersive body of work that was and still is, L.S.G. – Volume Two, and under Superstition Records, ‘Netherworld’ has created a lasting impact ever since, and with 26 different versions being released over the years, this is one track that has achieved its legendary status in a manner that cannot go unnoticed. Renowned for his longevity within our community, Frankfurt-based DJ and record producer Oliver Lieb is the mastermind behind this true gem of a track, with ‘Netherworld’ putting his L.S.G. alias at the forefront, being of course a personal statement on the project itself.
A production that withholds time like no other, Lieb would balance experimental sound design with that dance-floor vibe that omitted sensibility, allowing for an end product that is quite simply put, extraordinary. Confirming the track’s greatness, van Buuren has chosen it as his “ultimate favourite” trance anthem, whilst stating; “It’s such a timeless piece of music, and it still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.” One for the books indeed, ‘Netherworld’ acts as a clear illustrator of how music can defy generations, and with electronic music evolving on the constant, it is productions of such nature that remind us of our roots, and how far the industry has progressed as a whole.
