Carl Cox and Perry Farrell deliver massive collaboration ‘Joya’: Listen
The beauty of music often lies in the coming together of seemingly different and distant styles to craft something fresh and unique. On his latest release, Carl Cox is joined by legendary singer Perry Farrell for a massive work of art.
For some musicians, the method of crafting songs and performance isn’t enough; they see a larger ecosystem to support their work, as well as that of others around them. This vision largely applies to both Carl Cox and Perry Farrell. The former has been a label owner, event curator, and a staple of Miami’s Ultra Music Festival for decades. Meanwhile, Farrell, who found fame with his Jane’s Addiction bandmates in the late 80s, is responsible for the creation of the highly influential Lollapalooza Festival. Now their worlds come together for a highly anticipated collaboration simply titled Joya.
In preparing to release Joya, Carl Cox was clearly elated to work with a vocalist as unique as Farrell. He states, “When the opportunity came to work with Perry, I jumped at it and sent him the idea for Joya! It just came together so beautifully and I have been proud to play it as the closer for all of my sets in the last year. People respond to it with such joy, and that is what I was aiming for all along! Joya!” The release represents a beautiful coming together of different musical worlds, but balanced by the vision and boundaryless energy displayed by Cox and Farrell. The sentiment and experience is best summed up by Perry Farrell when he says, “It means the world to me that we’re making people so happy with our music.. Joyaaaaaah!”
